Developing the HLF project - Exploring Gilfach

Posted: Thursday 10th September 2015 by ExploringGilfach

Since we heard from HLF in late June that they would fund the development phase of the project, a lot a hard work has been undertaken by staff and volunteers.

HLF gave us a development grant of up to £29,200, match-funded with volunteer time, staff time and donations towards the project. We hit the ground running on the 2nd July 2015 by advertising for two external consultants, one to design an inspiring, beautiful interpretation hub at Pont Marteg, and the other to create an interpretation plan for Gilfach as well as a strategy into the future.

After lots of excellent tenders and a diverse group of people (see picture) who had the job of reading them all, scoring and selecting a short-list, we were very pleased to contract George and Tomas Architects (who designed the gorgeous hide at Cors Caron) to design the hub, and Red Kite Environment to help us with interpretation. We look forward to working with them and hope they love Gilfach as much as we all do.

The first target date we gave the consultants was to produce material to show and discuss with our members at the AGM on the 1st October 2015 at the Metropole in Llandrindod.
