Nature's Recovery and Climate Change Trainee

You’ll have to be able to commit time to be our Data Management and Habitat Mapping Trainee and gain the upper hand when you come to apply for jobs. To get the most out of this opportunity, you’ll need to be available for two days/week over a period of six months.

You don’t need to be especially knowledgeable, although previous relevant volunteering experience will help you know more about what’s involved. You should have a keen interest data collecting and analysis, a good level of physical fitness, feel comfortable in teams and be willing to work with other volunteers.

You will benefit from a substantial amount of training and get plenty of active experience, learning from our experienced, professional employees and volunteers. You’ll spend half of your time on our newest nature reserve, Pentwyn Farm gaining practical experience in surveying techniques, ranging from bird and butterfly monitoring to botanical surveys and habitat management. The other half of your time will be spent at Warwick House – the office base carrying out vital work entering and collating data, as well as gaining new skills on the analysis of geospatial data using Quantum GIS.

You’ll also have access to outdoor first aid certification and have the opportunity to develop an essential network of contacts in the sector.

Based at our Pentwyn Farm near Llanbister, as a Data Management and Habitat Trainee you will gain employer-valued practical experience by supporting our Wilder Pentwyn Farm Project by surveying and monitoring the wildlife and habitats on the nature reserve.

Office work will involve the management of survey data with an emphasis on data entry.

The days we ask you to be available will be discussed during the interview. Work times usually are 9:00am – 5:00pm. Occasional weekend working will also be required during summer months (with time off in lieu given during the week).
