Why record wildlife?
Wildlife records are used locally to inform planning applications and can play a vital role in highlighting the biological history of a site. When a site is proposed for development, wildlife records are used both by ecological consultancies and the local planning authority.
The data you collect can help us to inform our decision making, educate the community and carry out research on important species and habitats. By submitting your records you can make a quantifiable difference to our understanding of species distributions which in turn enables the production of annual reports, breeding or wintering atlases.
