The Wye now? project is a three year project with the aim of bringing meaningful change to the River Wye.
The current state of affairs
The Wye faces significant pollution issues, a major concern highlighted in national media. Agriculture and sewage discharges are the primary contributors, with urban developments also contributing to runoff problems. Visible pollution, including plastic, is widespread, along with excessive soil erosion, impacting water bodies.
Our Vision
Our vision for the Wye and its tributaries is linked to the Wildlife Trusts 5 priorities:
- End river pollution
- Tackle the climate emergency
- Bring back our lost wildlife
- Fund wildlife friendly farming
- Enable healthy communities
Manifesto to be published soon..
Working together
Within the project, positive relationships will be developed with farmers and other landowners and good practice will be identified and shared with others. Links will also be developed with community groups such as those concerned about the affect of flooding, water quality or drought. To help facilitate advocacy and to aid campaigning, a number of media and publicity routes will be utilized. The beauty of the river and its stunning wildlife will be showcased and promoted.
