Adopt a Patch of Land at Wilder Pentwyn Farm
Radnorshire Wildlife Trust (RWT) have launched a new and novel way to help them secure the land at Pentwyn Farm and achieve their vision for natures recovery. Since the purchase of the 164-acre hill farm on Llanbister Road, Powys in October 2021, the Trust have been busy working towards repaying the £1.5 million loan they took out, whilst building an ambitious 30-year vision for the future. Over £900,000 has already been raised, but there is still a way to go to reach their goal and secure the land. You can be part of Pentwyn and adopt a unique 3mx3m square of land to support the creation of a Wilder Pentwyn Farm and make the Trust’s vision for change a reality.
Initial steps that RWT have taken since the purchase include partnering with a local grazier to bring eight Belted Galloways on site, using ‘no-fence’ collars to help protect key features, setting up butterfly and bird monitoring surveys, carrying out fencing work, and attaining a horticulture business partner who will be producing sustainable fruit and vegetables for short supply chain, local markets.
Wilder Pentwyn Farm will be a farm where nature is the lead crop. RWT will allow plant diversity and habitats such as scrub, wetland, and broadleaved woodland to recover. This will provide year-around food sources for wildlife as well as cover for shelter and nesting. Most of all the Trust want to see nature increase on the land, draw people in, and give them hope for the future.
