A newly acquired reserve, this beautiful semi-natural ancient woodland is being assessed and monitored and is not currently open to the general public.
Sessile oak and hazel coppice make up the basic structure of the wood with a good mix of ash, birch, willow, crab apple, wych elm and rowan. There are at least four veteran oaks with some spectacular ancient rowans, one of which has a girth making it nearly a very ancient tree! (Find out more below.)
Left undisturbed from the 1970s up until 2006, the wood has since been managed for the benefit of wildlife. Birds, flowering plants, lichens, mosses, moths, insect galls and bats all thrive in this woodland.
