Project Summary
The #NNF3 Gilfach Nature Reserve – Climate adaptation and resilience through nature’s restoration is a two-year project focused on one of our flagship nature reserves. Once a working hill farm, now a spectacular nature reserve tucked away in the heart of Mid-Wales, Gilfach supports many rich and diverse habitats under statutory protection and has significant cultural and wildlife heritage.
We intend to undertake restoration and enhancement to the SSSI river Marteg’s corridor, through practical work as well as up-skilling a junior member of staff to oversee capital works delivery in addition to supporting the volunteer led tasks. Volunteers are a crucial part of our organisation’s operation, and we would take this opportunity to further develop willing individuals as volunteer leaders, through the provision of formal training.
Through this project a broad wealth of knowledge of nature restorative and climate resilient land practices will be attained, and the sharing of this knowledge with the local community, particularly landowners, is of vital importance. We will therefore host a series of workshops to share our understanding and actively encourage the adoption of such practices, with a view to influence landscape level change.
Heritage will be in better condition – we will enhance the natural landscape and wildlife of Gilfach.
Community will have a greater sense of stewardship of our landscapes.
Visitors and volunteers will have improved wellbeing.
Awareness will be raised of the local and global environmental sustainability challenges.
Brief for Tender
The Radnorshire Wildlife Trust wishes to appoint an independent, professional external evaluator to assess how the Gilfach Nature Reserve – Climate adaptation and resilience through nature’s restoration performs against its forecast objectives and outputs. Overall, the successful evaluating organisation will be required to support the project in gathering evidence and produce an Evaluation Report at the end of the project. The consultant will work with a group of project representatives and staff to help capture learning and the impact of the project. The consultant will have experience of evaluation of National Lottery Heritage Fund projects alongside some conservation knowledge.
