Joe's story so far as Nature's Recovery and Climate Change Trainee
I’m just over halfway through my traineeship, and I am absolutely loving it. I have had fantastic support to educate myself and pursue areas that I am interested in; ample opportunities to develop both practical conservation skills and my own knowledge about wildlife, climate change, and land management.
Furthermore, I’ve been able to pick up experience of how to prepare, organise and run events, as well as other essential skills needed to help me continue in the environmental sector after the traineeship has ended.
The traineeship has been an amazing chance for personal development, I have seen my confidence grow, and feel more content knowing that I’m doing something that makes a difference.
One of my favourite parts of the traineeship so far has been developing my practical skills, in particular undertaking a full day scything course. Over the next couple of months, I am excited to undertake a project of mapping the nest boxes on our nature reserves (and finding out what have been living in them!)
I have found myself noticing nature more in my daily life, since starting the traineeship the highlight has been a close tie between finding a slowworm and holding it in my hands and seeing two otters swimming at night while going through trail camera footage.
I cannot recommend this experience enough to others!
